Le Negresco, a prominent contributor to France’s cultural heritage

Le Negresco and the Musée national Fernand Léger join forces to present the exhibition Léger and the New Realists, which will be held from 15 June to 18 November 2024 in partnership with the Musées Nationaux du XXe siècle des Alpes-Maritimes and the Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand palais (rmn).

Promoting French art forms a fundamental component of the DNA of Le Negresco and lies at the heart of the missions of the current owner of the hotel, the Fonds de Dotation Mesnage-Augier-Negresco (FDMAN).

Created in 2009 by Madame Augier, the FDMAN has a mission to play an active role in preserving culture in France, helping people in need, improving the living conditions of the disabled, and finally, reducing animal misery. The FDMAN promotes charitable, artistic, and activist activities and events that align with its mission.

Responding favourably to the request of the Musée national Fernand Léger to borrow Niki de Saint Phalle’s Miles Davis (the emblematic sculpture standing at the entrance of Le Negresco) was a straightforward matter for the FDMAN and Le Negresco. However, we had to select a work of art to replace the sculpture for the duration of the exhibition.

Negresco

In view of the strong friendship that bound Madame Augier and Niki de Saint Phalle, Le Negresco and FDMAN were keen to showcase this major artist once again. The piece was carefully and thoughtfully chosen by the hotel’s General Manager Mr Servant, who elected the Large Yelling Man Totem.

Large Yelling Man Totem will be on display from 15 June to 18 November 2024 in the place of Miles Davis, in what was Madame Augier’s favourite place to share open-air art with the hotel’s guests, the people of Nice and visitors to the city.

Le Negresco remains a prominent contributor to France’s cultural heritage.
